There are more tricks, but they're currently being translated from Japanese. One of these has something to do with using the CTCSS button to change 'Decord' from High to Low. No info yet on this. The Uniden Sales Dept specifically requested that cellular images be included in.

I have searched far and wide for the last two hours for the 'BC-9000XLT keypad tricks' link, but have been unsuccessful. I found one bad link to it, and no others. As a new 9000 owner, I'd love to find this info if it is still out there somewhere. Anyone have a good URL? Thanks!. 95 VFR - 'A Gentleman's Sportbike' - AA4DO - ARRL Life - NRA Life. Here you go.Uniden Bearcat BC9000XLT Tricks.Info from Dave Rodriguez (Uniden Corp) & Jeff Zeman.Additional info from Bob Parnass (Monitoring Times)File written by SYSOP.Jeff Goldman WA1UDB.By holding down the 2, 9 & DLY keys as you turn the 9000XLT on, youenter asort of Test Mode. To do a 'keycheck test' you can hit any key or turnthe VFOknob either direction and the alpha display will tell you what keyyou'retouching or which direction you're turning the VFO knob.At this point, if you momentarily hit LOCK (to the right of the VFOknob) andone other button various things will happen:LOCK & C - REPLACES ALL MEMORIES w/1300MHz and alpha-tags channels 1-250with CH 00-249 in the display.
Again, will effectively wipeoutyour memories!LOCK & D - Checksum and Firmware Version Number (v.09 in ALL 9000s todate)LOCK & E - LCD Display TestLOCK & PROG - Runs a short, continously-repeating Demo Programincorporatedspecifically for showing at the Jan 1995 CES in Las Vegas.Italso sounds attention tones as the message scrolls on thedisplay! (Note that the word 'scanner' is spelled 'Scaner'inthe demo program; it was too late to change this.oothatoriginated in Japan.)The last three tricks will NOT wipe out memory. Only LOCK/C will dothat.Additional notes. There are more tricks, but they're currently being translated fromJapanese. One of these has something to do with using the CTCSS button to change'Decord' from High to Low.
No info yet on this. The Uniden Sales Dept specifically requested that cellular images beincluded in the BC9000XLT (since it's legal to do that). The front endwasleft wide open to allow this in the 360-385MHz range. No reason available on why the FM filtering is narrower (ie less HiFi)thanon the BC8500XLT. It was done in Japan without explanation. The audio amp doesn't shut off as in the BC8500XLT during quiet periods.Therewas an improvement in the circuit, but this means a bit of hiss when notransmissions are coming through. All BC9000XLTs (whether built in 1994 - serial numbers 45+ - or in 1995- serial numbers 55+) have firmware version 0.09. And all have AM modeavailable on any frequency the scanner is capable of.The BC9000XLT is capable of having an alpha tag attached to any channel,but250 tags is the limit. (This was verified by doing the LOCK/C trick. Thescanner loads 250 tags and shows a memory full warning if you try toenteradditional tags.).A tip from Bob Parnass (Monitoring Times). You can use the SND button during a Search as a sort of Radio Shack-typeMON button, transferring a freq to any bank you'd like to become your'Monitor' bank. With RS scanners, you have to go through extra steps totransfer the memories from Monitor channels to permanent channels.
Keypad Tricks for the BC-8500XLT Scanner.Hold the 2, 9, & SCAN keys while turning on the power loads testfrequencies into the following channels.CH Frequency in MHz- -1 25.0153 54.05004 111.08755 112.01256 224.09507 299.01258 300.08759 418.012510 419.087511 549.050012 760.012513 916.087514 917.0.0.0.0.0.087532 127.175033 162.400034 195.500035 220.500036 230.050037 325.050038 453.250039 531.500040 765.250041 954.9.7.1.8.9125. So far I cannot find any out of band frequencies but if someone foundone such as 888.960, you could unblock the 869 to 894 MHz part of theband. Other Uniden made scanners (PRO-23, PRO-46, PRO-51) can restorethis part of the band by this trick. Some of these use several key combo'sto load different freq's like 2, 9, & MANUAL loads one type of testfrequencies and 2, 9, & LOCKOUT loads different ones such as the PRO23.The KEY seems to be that all key combo's start with a 2 & 9 with oneother key held while power turned on. This holds true on most Unidenmade scanners like the above including the 3000XLT & 9000XLT.Hold 2, 9, & CTCSS while turning power on - counts from channel 1 to 25Bank (A) very slowly in Demo Mode and displays the following message:'Uniden America Presents You A New Bearcat BC8500XLT SpecificallyDesigned For Professional Scanner User.
Features Such As 500 Channel,Continuous Band Scanner V.F.O. Control, 20 Banks, 25MHz to 1.3GHz,Turbo Scan, 10 Priority Chs, Auto-Store, Aux.Tape Output, AlphanumericLCD display. Great Stuff!!
For Example DPS Dallas Texas HWY Patrol'. This message is displayed over and over. This will only work ifyou first Hold the 2, 9 & Scan keys while turning on the scannerand then turn it off. Finally Hold the 2, 9 & CTCSS keys and turnon the scanner. I guess this was used to demonstrate the scannerat the CES.Hold 2, 9, & PROG while turning power on - Display goes blank and canhear background noise/static like listing to an channel with thesquelch open while channel not active. (Not sure what it's for, maybea test mode or a Program mode.

Very Strange). Any ideas?Hold 2, 9, & MANUEL while turning power on to clear all channels to000.0000 MHz. You can use this like a system reset to clear ALLmemories. There maybe other keypad tricks but this is all I found so far.Don't you love the Uniden programmers.
I'm looking for the gamethats been rumored to be hiddened in it's firmware. I'll findthe secrete key tricks someday unless someone beats me to it.If you know anyother keypad tricks for the BC8500XLT please E-mail me.Thanks, Carl.: I have searched far and wide for the last two hours for the: 'BC-9000XLT keypad tricks' link, but have been unsuccessful. OK Barry (Mr No Help) heres the guts of why I asked for HELP. Each time Iselected the Hi-Cut On/Off function I heard no perceptible differencebecause I was SCANNING (duh). It's what one does with a UBC9000XLT. Themanual said nothing about the function except how to turn it on and off.Thank heavens for mortals such as Lindsay Vincent.thankyou Lindsay.::::Gidday from Down Under (Godzone that is!)::::What is the function of the HI-CUT On/Off button on the UBC9000XLT.The::manual just tells you how to switch it on and off. :1: Mike I also came up with the same problem and as far as I can tell the:only thing that changes is the pitch of the audio. The HI-CUT function when on cuts off the high audio frequencies.:2: Question: Is there a way to enter a freq. To monitor without commiting it:to a memory bank????What you can do is to reserve channel 500 as your tempory channel.:3: Another question. Are there any mods around for the 9000 other than the:CTCSS.There is the tp3 connection mod for use with digital modes. There is so much space inside the 9000 that it should be possible toinstall complete circuit boards.Another possible mod would be to rewire the line output so that it isnot affected by the volume control.:Regards:SteveCBarry.
